Nintendo Halts 3DTV Program

14 May, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Nintendo said it would next month cancel a 3D TV platform a year after launching the service in conjunction with its popular 3DS game platform.

In a May 11 statement, Nintendo president Minami-ku Kyoto said the 3D TV service would end June 20.

The 3D TV service was launched in order to create 3D video clips for 3DS, which did not require special 3D glasses.

The Japanese game manufacturer said it would continue developing occasional free 3D video clips for the 3DS through proprietary Nintendo Video Channel.

“To everyone that has utilized our services, I am sorry indeed,” Kyoto said.

Nintendo also said it would halt production of the Aqua Blue 3DS, one of the first colored game units.
