Universal Music Group Acquires Eagle Rock Entertainment9 Apr, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Universal Music Group has acquired Eagle Rock Entertainment, a U.K.-based independent producer and distributor of music packaged media, including DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The addition of Eagle Rock’s library, which includes nearly 2,000 hours of programming and more than 800 titles, enhances the value of UMG’s catalog by broadening the product offerings associated with UMG’s artists. Further, the addition of Eagle Rock’s management team will assist UMG in producing video content and creating artist-based bundles in a variety of physical and digital formats, including on new and emerging mobile platforms.
Eagle Rock CEO Terry Shand will continue to lead the company from its headquarters in London.
Lucian Grainge, CEO of UMG, said expanding the label’s audio-visual catalog and production expertise is key in an evolving distribution market predicated on video.
“Terry has built Eagle Rock into a world-class content company and a leading force in distributing top music-based audio-visual programming,” Grainge said in a statement.
