North Carolina Man Arrested for Delinquent VHS Movie Rental24 Mar, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Talk about late fees. A North Carolina man March 23 was arrested for failing to return VHS movie rental — Freddy Got Fingered, starring comedian Tom Green — 14 years ago, according to Channel 9 WSOCTV.com. The misdemeanor crime is subject to a $200 fine.
James Meyers, who was pulled over by Concord police for a broken taillight, was asked to exit his vehicle after authorities ran his license and discovered the outstanding warrant.
“The officer said, 'I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie Freddy Got Fingered and never returned it.' I thought he was joking,” Meyers told Channel 9.
Meyers had rented the low-brow comedy from J&J’s Video in Annapolis in 2002 and never returned it. J&J’s Video, like a lot of video stores, is no longer in business.
The father, who had been driving his daughter to school, was allowed to do so if he promised to return to the police station. When he got there he was arrested and placed in handcuffs. Meyers has an April 27 court date.
Green, who is on a comedy tour in Australia, has reportedly offered to pay Meyer’s fine.
“I just saw this and I am struggling to believe it is real,” Green tweeted.
