21 Oct, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Titles streamed via Roku 4 media players and compatible TVs

Walmart’s Vudu.com digital movie service Oct. 21 launched the first slate of movies in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

4K resolution is said to offer four-times the picture quality of 1080p.

The Warner Bros. titles include: San Andreas, Man of Steel, Edge of Tomorrow, The Lego Movie, Magic Mike XXL, Jupiter Ascending, Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Great Gatsby, Into the Storm, Focus and Run All Night.

The movies can be viewed via the Vudu channel on Roku 4 devices that are connected to a 4K television. Consumers can select the option to own ($24.99) or rent ($9.99) the films by clicking on the UHD option on the movie details page.

“This is the first step in Vudu’s ultra-high-definition movie offering that we’re calling “Vudu UHD,” said a spokesperson.

Vudu UHD movies include 4K movies as well as 4K movies enhanced with features that improve picture quality and sound, depending on the type of device or TV the customer is using.

For example, Vudu users with Vizio’s upcoming slate of 4KTVs can watch a collection of Vudu UHD films not just in 4K resolution, but with picture quality enhanced with Dolby Vision HDR technology. For audiophiles, several Vudu UHD movies also come with Dolby Atmos audio technology.
