‘Iron Man 3’ Bows Digitally Sept. 3, on Disc Sept. 24

The superhero blockbuster, the seventh in the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” that ties into the “Avengers” brand, will be available via HD digital in both 3D ($25) and 2D ($19.50) starting Sept. 3. Three weeks later, Sept. 24 (order date Aug. 13), sees the film released as a 3D super set ($49.99) that includes the film on 3D Blu-ray, 2D Blu-ray and DVD, and includes a digital copy and music sampler. Disney will also release the film as a 2D Blu-ray combo pack with DVD and digital copy at $44.99; a Blu-ray/DVD combo with no digital copy for $39.99; a DVD with digital copy for $29.99; and on demand.
The film, in which Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, grossed about $404 million in U.S. theaters and more than $1.2 billion worldwide.
Extras on the Blu-ray versions and through select digital retailers include a featurette deconstructing the attack on Air Force One scene; an exclusive behind-the-scenes preview of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Thor: The Dark World, hitting theaters in November; a “Marvel’s Iron Man 3 Unmasked” featurette; a gag reel; deleted and extended scenes; commentary with writer Drew Pearce and director Shane Black; and more. The DVD will contain a limited number of bonus features.
