Disney Ups Janice Marinelli to Head of Home Entertainment Distribution

24 Oct, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

The Walt Disney Co. has promoted longtime executive Janice Marinelli to president of Disney Studio global in-home and digital distribution and Disney ABC North America content distribution.

Marinelli, who has headed domestic distribution at Disney-ABC Television since 1999, oversees content distribution outside the theatrical window, including both physical and digital product, for films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Touchstone.

She reportedly was instrumental in the landmark pay-TV distribution deal with Netflix, which is set to begin in 2016.

Marinelli’s promotion comes as Disney reorganizes packaged media and digital businesses under one executive, according to studio president Alan Bergman, to whom Marinelli reports in Burbank, Calif.

The combined divisions will operate under a new name, which hasn’t been disclosed yet, according to a studio spokesperson.

“Consolidating our physical and digital business under her direction enables us to further optimize our content across multiple platforms and provide the best and most seamless experiences for our consumers,” Bergman said in a statement.

Lori MacPherson, EVP of home entertainment, and Jason Brenek, SVP of international in-home sales, both report to Marinelli.

Marinelli also continues to lead North American television distribution for Disney-ABC Television Group — reporting to ABC TV global distribution president Ben Pyne — encompassing content from ABC Studios, ABC Entertainment, ABC Family, Disney Channel and first-run syndication.
