Comcast Xfinity Streampix Gets CBS Shows Netflix Can’t6 Nov, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Cabler’s SVOD platform gets back seasons to ‘The Good Wife,’ and ‘Charmed’ unavailable on other streaming services, including Netflix
Comcast’s proprietary Xfinity Streampix subscription video-on-demand service reportedly has acquired access to every past season of "The Good Wife" and "Charmed,” among others, from CBS.
The availability is noteworthy since it breaks a caveat at CBS that only TV programs no longer airing in primetime will be made available to SVOD services.
CBS broke from policy during the summer when it made current episodes of new series “Under the Dome” available exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Of course, Comcast is a different situation. As the nation’s largest multichannel video program distributor, it carries (and pays retransmission fees for) CBS programming, in addition to Showtime Networks.
More importantly, Xfinity Streampix is not available as a standalone SVOD service. Rather, it’s a $5 monthly add-on to current Xfinity TV broadband subscribers.
