Time Warner Cable Lost 408,000 Video Subs in 2014

Time Warner Cable Jan. 29 reported a loss of 408,000 video subscribers in 2014, including 38,000 fewer subs in the fourth quarter (ended Dec. 31) compared with the third quarter.

The No. 2 domestic cable operator said programming costs increased 4.7% to $5.1 billion partially offset by a decline in transactional video-on-demand (digital rental) subscribers.

Indeed, transactional VOD revenue across the industry declined 6.7% to $1.97 billion.

Separately, Comcast said extended the possible closing date for its $45 billion acquisition of TWC from Feb. 12 to Aug. 12.
