Sony Interactive Entertainment America June 5 said it has sold more than 1 million PlayStation VR headsets since the device’s launch last October. The tally is a bit underwhelming considering Sony announced in February it had sold 915,000 headsets.

Rival Samsung has sold more than 5 million Gear VR headsets since its bow in 2015.

“We’re still trying to understand exactly what people are going to want to do in that medium. It’s hard to make predictions about it,” Shawn Layden, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, told .

With PS4 units sold approaching 60 million, Layden suggests VR headset sales will pick up this year. Buttressing that optimism is the fact Sony has sold 5.25 million VR games, with gamers playing an average of 25 minutes per session.

The launch of PSVR included formatted games Resident Evil 7, Thumper, Rez Infinite and, more recently, Farpoint. Sony plans to expand the VR experience beyond gaming with a VR edition of “Breaking Bad” from Sony Pictures Television and helmed by series creator Vince Gilligan.

In March, Sony released Passengers: Awakening, a 20-minute VR game released at the same time as the DVD/Blu-ray Disc of sci-fi movie Passengers, starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. Other VR editions from Sony Pictures include The Walk, Goosebumps and Ghostbusters.

“With VR, it’s a brave new world,” Layden said.
