Sling TV June 1 announced movie-streaming service Tribeca Shortlist is the first third-party over-the-top video service available on the Dish Network-owned online TV platform. Sling Orange and Blue subscribers can access the service at no additional cost.
Launched in 2015, Tribeca Shortlist is a $4.99 SVOD partnership between Lionsgate and Tribeca Enterprises featuring a refreshed monthly line-up of curated movies recommended by noted actors, directors and related industry experts.
“The addition of Tribeca Shortlist … enhances Sling TV’s line-up of must-see live sports, news, premieres and catch-up TV,” Ankit Bishnoi, director of content acquisition and strategy for Sling TV, said in a statement. “We’re continuing to build on our already expansive on-demand library to become a one-stop entertainment destination.”
The addition of Tribeca Shortlist comes as Lionsgate attempts to make profitable investments in proprietary SVOD platforms, including a pending movie service with Univision and comedy site with Kevin Hart.
The services generated a loss of $10.6 million on revenue of $1.3 million in the most-recent fiscal period. For the fiscal year, Tribeca Shortlist and Comic-Con HQ posted a combined loss of $35.5 million on revenue of $2.9 million.
“Tribeca Shortlist … is a compelling value proposition for movie lovers everywhere, and we’re delighted to add Sling to our roster of forward-looking partners,” said Monica Bloom, SVP and GM of Tribeca Shortlist.
