Streaming media device pioneer Roku July 13 announced it reached 15 million monthly active accounts through June 30 — up 43% from the previous-year period. The tally rivals Hulu’s monthly subscriber base.
Roku is the top streaming media platform in regards to total hours streamed. Users streamed nearly 7 billion hours on the platform in the first half of 2017, up 61% over the same period in 2016.
“We are growing our active accounts by distributing our proprietary TV OS across a broad range of streaming devices with multiple price points and many new Roku TV models from our TV brand partners,” founder and CEO Anthony Wood said in a statement.
Roku offers 5,000 streaming channels with access to 500,000 movies and TV episodes in the United States via myriad third-party distributors.
