New 'Stretch Armstrong' series launching in the fall
Hasbro Studios is working with Netflix to create a new original animated series around its Stretch Armstrong character. The 26-episode series, “Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters,” will reimagine the character as a teenage superhero and debut later this year.
Launched in 1976, Hasbro’s Stretch Armstrong is a well-muscled doll that could stretch from its original size of fifteen inches to four or five feet. In the new series, Jake Armstrong is a high school student, who, along with two friends, is exposed to an experimental chemical transforming him into a superhero.
“We have been waiting for just the right moment to re-imagine Stretch for a new audience,” Stephen Davis, chief content officer at Hasbro, said in a statement. “We have hit a superhero sweet spot, and with Netflix’s global reach, kids across the world will fall in love with its fun characters and action-packed storyline.”
Original content production helped Hasbro grow its profit 30% in the most-recent fiscal period.
