Hasbro Bows Game Subscription Service

19 Jun, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Game manufacturer Hasbro June 19 announced the launch of its first subscription-based game service — “Hasbro Gaming Crate.”

The company behind venerable game brands such as “Monopoly,” “Play-Doh” and “Scrabble,” said the service offers access to curated packaged-media games delivered in “crates” by-mail and available electronically. Each crate — delivered every 90 days — contains three games and costs $49.99 plus shipping.

“The subscription service makes it easy and convenient for families and fans to try new games,” said Jonathan Berkowitz, SVP of marketing.

Initial games include the “Mask of the Pharaoh,” a virtual-reality board game in which players download an app — available on the App Store or Google Play Store — to their smartphone. Players must quickly describe a section of the pyramid they see while wearing a VR mask as the other players use the included physical game tiles to complete the path to victory on the game board.

Another game, “Speak Out: Joe Santagato,” is an “adults-only” play with users trying to say phrases while wearing a mouthpiece, featuring NSFW content inspired by Internet actor/comedian Joe Santagato.

Hasbro, in recent years, created gaming content for Netflix, in addition to inking distribution deals with Shout! Factory.
