HBO Go Finally Comes to PS3

4 Mar, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel

No word yet on PS4 availability

No, it’s not a misprint.

Sony Computer Entertainment America March 4 announced HBO Go is now available on PlayStation 3 — not PS4 — video game systems. HBO Go allows authenticated HBO subscribers to access on demand and some live programming through the PS3.

HBO Go enables streaming access to every episode of every season of the premium channel’s shows, including “True Detective,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “True Blood” and “Game of Thrones,” among others.

First announced in January by HBO CEO Richard Plepler, HBO has been methodical in how it licenses rights to the HBO Go app.  While much of the gaming industry lauds consumer response to PS4 — 6 million devices sold since launch — HBO remains mum on when the new console will have access.

In a blog post, Phil Rosenberg, SVP of business development for SCEA, said discussions with HBO over the situation remain fluid.

“We are working diligently with HBO to bring the HBO Go app to PS4,” Rosenberg wrote.
