'CBS All Access' Expands Live Coverage

16 Jul, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Subscription streaming service CBS All Access July 16 announced it will be expanding its live local feeds to three-quarters of the United States through recent affiliate agreements covering 124 markets nationwide.

For $6 monthly, CBS All Access offers subscribers access catalog TV episodes, in addition to select new and past episodes from shows currently in broadcast. Access to CBS affiliates was seen as key to the over-the-top video service’s consumer appeal. To date, 40 affiliate groups have signed on to participate, in addition to the 14 owned-and-operated CBS stations at the March launch.

Recent agreements with Media General, Scripps, Sinclair and other affiliate groups will bring CBS All Access’ live offering to additional markets, including: Portland, Ore.; Providence, RI; Nashville, Tenn.; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Albany-Schenectady, N.Y.

“Our goal is to offer the service to consumers in every market in the near future, giving viewers everywhere the ability to watch their local CBS station whenever they want and on whatever platform is most convenient for them,” Ray Hopkins, president of television networks distribution for CBS Corp., said in a statement.
