Redbox, Sony Ink New Distribution Deal

24 Aug, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Redbox and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Aug. 24 announced a new distribution agreement, effective in September. Similarly to the 2012 deal, Redbox will have access to SPHE’s titles on street date.

“The partnership ensures that consumers will have day-and-date access to SPHE’s slate, while also driving stronger financial performance for both SPHE and Redbox,” Galen Smith, CEO of Redbox, said in a statement.

The pact mirrors renewals with other studios, including most-recently Lionsgate, affording the kiosk vendor street-day access to content.

“In the evolving marketplace, consumer choice is paramount,” said Man Jit Singh, president, SPHE. “We are committed to satisfying consumer demand in all of its forms, and our deal with Redbox is an important part of our efforts to provide a wide range of options for audiences.”
