2 Jun, 2016 By: John Latchem

WWE Studios and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions May 27 announced the two studios will partner on the upcoming action film The Marine 5: Battleground.  Directed by James Nunn (Eliminators), the film, which began production May 31 in Vancouver, Canada, will star WWE Superstars The Miz, Maryse Ouellet, Heath Slater, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel and Naomi.

This will be the third consecutive “Marine” film to star The Miz as Jake Carter. In this installment, Carter is working as an EMT when he finds himself protecting an injured man in an abandoned parking lot against a ruthless biker gang.

“For the first time ever we will have six WWE Superstars in one live-action film to ramp up the excitement and thrill audiences worldwide,” said Michael Luisi, president of WWE Studios.

WWE Studios has also teamed with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment for a second “Scooby-Doo!” crossover — Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon, which arrives on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital HD Aug. 9, just prior to the WWE’s SummerSlam event.

The new animated adventure features the voices of WWE Superstars The Undertaker, Triple H, Paige, Mr. McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Sheamus, Lana, Rusev, The Miz, Kofi Kingston and Goldust.

The story involves Scooby and Mystery Inc. teaming with the WWE crew to stop a menacing phantom from sabotaging an off-road racing competition.

Extras include two episodes from “Be Cool Scooby-Doo!” and “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated,” and exclusive content containing a behind-the-scenes segment featuring Scooby-Doo Monster Jam truck drivers.

The first team-up, Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery was released in 2014.

“The huge fan reaction to Scooby Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery proved how well the gang paired with the WWE Superstars. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is thrilled to partner once again with,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE VP of family and animation marketing.

“The timeless characters of Scooby Doo!, coupled with our iconic WWE Superstars, have proved to be true crowd–pleasers worldwide,” Luisi said.
