Underscoring the significance of subscription streaming video, Lionsgate has promoted Agapy Kapouranis to the newly created position of EVP of global subscription video on demand.

Kapouranis, who joined Lionsgate in 2011 from MGM Studios, previously served as SVP of television and digital distribution, playing an integral role in identifying windowing opportunities and new business models while managing the North American subscription streaming market.

Indeed, Lionsgate continues to expand its international presence, licensing new-release movies and TV shows, in addition to a 16,000-title movie and TV library to broadcast, cable, pay-television, SVOD and digital platforms worldwide. It recently bolstered its international library through a deal with New Regency Pictures, adding titles including The Big Short and Oscar winners The Revenant and Gone Girl.

Reporting to Lawrence Szabo, EVP of North American TV and SVOD sales, and Peter Iacono, president of international television and digital distribution, at the studio’s Santa Monica, Calif.-based headquarters, Kapouranis spearheads licensing of content to SVOD platforms internationally. She will continue to oversee licensing of content in Canada.

"Agapy is an innovative television and digital distribution executive and a skilled decision-maker with a deep understanding of local international markets and global SVOD deals,” Jim Packer, Lionsgate president of worldwide television and digital distribution, said in a statement.
