Ron Sanders, president of Warner Bros. Worldwide Home Entertainment Distribution, is slated to keynote the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ upcoming “Entertainment Technology in the Connected Age” conference June 27-28 at the Heritage Theatre in Campbell, Calif.

Sanders, who oversees the studio’s leadership role in emerging distribution channels, including 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc and digital, Digital HD and the cloud-based Ultraviolet storage platform, among other industry initiatives, will discuss Warner's perspective on the future of entertainment via the Web.

In his second-day keynote, “The Future of Home Entertainment in a Connected World: A Warner Bros. Perspective,” Sanders will speak to the myriad opportunities for delivering content over a variety of platforms in response to rapidly-changing consumer trends.

Indeed, Sanders contends Ultra HD content will become ubiquitous in home entertainment due to the relative lack of competing UHD broadcasts. Ultra HD content is slated to be delivered to consumers through a mix of digital and physical, with physical — Blu-ray — the primary entry point. Sanders said Warner should have 60 titles out this year.

“The exciting thing about this is that we are going to be first. We think there could be over a billion dollars in consumer spend by 2019,” he told Home Media Magazine earlier this year.

A subsequent panel discussion, “Solving Complexities in Connected Distribution,” headed by former Warner executive and current Walden Pond CEO Wendy Aylsworth, will focus on how to overcome business challenges in a connected marketplace.

“Although streaming media outlets have become part of the mainstream, and the idea of ‘anywhere, anytime’ access to content has become reality, we have a long way to go in realizing the full potential of the connected marketplace,” Aylsworth said in a statement.

A separate session, “Next-Generation Audio: Connected from Cinema to Couch to Car,” explores how object-audio technology introduced in cinema and broadcast is being adopted for next-generation streaming, as well as how new content-creation tools are being deployed to produce, mix and transport these audio signals through production to the consumer in cinemas, at home and beyond.
