CBS June 19 announced that “Star Trek: Discovery,” the new series in the venerable franchise, will air/stream beginning Sept. 24.
The series will have a special broadcast premiere on CBS at 8:30 ET/7:30 CT. The premiere and second episode will stream the same night on subscription streaming service CBS All Access.
In a twist, the series will roll out weekly in two, eight-episode chapters. The first chapter runs from Sept. 24 through Nov. 5. The second chapter resumes in January 2018.
"Star Trek" returns to television 51 years after the franchise first premiered, featuring a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the franchise's ideology about a hopeful future.
The new series will star Sonequa Martin-Green ("The Walking Dead") as a starship commander.
“Discovery” will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV.
