A slew of hot new releases June 3 commanded plenty of retail attention, especially Fox’s remake of RoboCop, which came with exclusives at all of the big three major retailers.
Best Buy offered RoboCop with an exclusive “metalpak” case, although copies with the special packaging appeared to be sold out at the Costa Mesa, Calif., location by about 1 p.m. on the Tuesday release date.
Target offered an exclusive downloadable RoboCop digital comic book with the Blu-ray combo pack, while Walmart offered a lower-cost DVD version without any extras (the regular DVD comes with deleted scenes).
Walmart’s biggest promotion was tied to Fox’s Son of God, as the chain offered the faith-based title in a special Blu-ray combo pack with photo book packaging.
For Universal’s Lone Survivor, Target offered a steelbook Blu-ray case, while Walmart offered the Blu-ray with access to 30 minutes of exclusive content through its Vudu.com streaming service. Walmart also offered a special UltraViolet digital-only version of the title through Vudu, also with 30 minutes of exclusive extras.
