'E.T.' Inspires Exclusives

Universal’s new anniversary edition of E.T. — The Extra-Terrestrial inspired the most exclusives the week of Oct. 9, with all the major retailers offering their own version of the film on Blu-ray.
Best Buy shoppers could get a copy of the Blu-ray combo pack in special 48-page digibook packaging, with photos and information about the film. Walmart packed the combo pack with a plush of the alien himself.
Target presented the E.T. Blu-ray combo pack in a special steelbook case, among several exclusives offered for the week. Additional titles included Fox’s Prometheus Blu-ray combo pack and 3D combo pack with an exclusive photo booklet; an exclusive two-DVD limited edition of Warner’s Rock of Ages with 45 minutes of additional bonus content; and re-releases of seasons five through nine of “I Love Lucy” at $11.99 each.
Walmart offered a Rock of Ages DVD packaged with a sampler of the film's soundtrack, as well as a Blu-ray-only edition of Prometheus. The chain also had the family film Dear Dracula from Arc Entertainment at $9.96.
Best Buy continued to promote its “Upgrade & Save” program, whereby consumers could exchange any used DVD for a $5 coupon redeemable through Oct. 20 on any Blu-ray $9.99 or more.
