Xbox, Kinect Help Push Microsoft Profits
28 Apr, 2011 By: Chris TribbeyMicrosoft pointed to 60% year-over-year growth in its entertainment and devices division — which includes the Xbox 360 gaming console and the Kinect motion-sensing system — as a big driver behind its positive, fiscal third-quarter financial results.
“We delivered strong financial results despite a mixed PC environment, which demonstrates the strength and breadth of our businesses,” said Peter Klein, chief financial officer at Microsoft. “Consumers are purchasing Office 2010, Xbox and Kinect at tremendous rates, and businesses of all sizes are purchasing Microsoft platforms and applications.”
For the quarter ended March 31, Microsoft reported revenue of $16.43 billion, up 13% year over year, and a profit of $5.23 billion.
