After the success of 2014’s Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery, Warner Bros. and WWE wanted a follow-up that wasn’t just another story about a ghost interrupting a wrestling match.
So they decided to make it a racing movie.
“We wanted to change it up a bit to find just the right story,” said WB animation producer Brandon Vietti, promoting the movie July 23 at San Diego Comic-Con International 2016.
In Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon, now available on Digital HD and arriving on DVD and Blu-ray Aug. 9, the Mystery Inc. crew is invited to join the WWE in a road race that is disrupted by the mysterious Speed Demon.
Vietti, who counts himself a fan of WWE’s The Undertaker, said it was fun to explore the personalities of the wrestlers outside the ring.
“Everybody brought something so cool to the movie,” Vietti said.
Superstars lending their voice to the film include Sheamus, The Miz and Paige.
“They drive the way they would fight,” said director Tim Divar about animating the race. “The Superstars aren’t afraid of anybody.”
