Extended ‘Lord of the Rings’ Films Hit Big Screen

4 May, 2011 By: John Latchem

Warner Home Video, in conjunction with NCM Fathom, in June will present “The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition Event,” featuring special screenings of the Academy Award-winning films.

About 500 theaters around the country will present the extended cut of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring June 14, followed by the extended cut of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers June 21 and concluding with the extended cut of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King June 28, all beginning at 7 p.m. local time.

The extended cuts each contain nearly an hour of additional footage not included in their previous theatrical runs. In addition each screening will include a special introduction by director Peter Jackson that was filmed on the set of The Hobbit, the prequel story to Lord of the Rings.

Tickets can be purchased online or at participating theaters, a list of which can be found at .

The promotion comes in advance of Warner Home Video’s June 28 Blu-ray release of the extended edition of the trilogy as a 15-disc set, which includes more than 26 hours of behind-the-scenes material. The extended cuts previously were released on DVD.
