'Blade Runner' Coming to Ultra HD Blu-ray

27 Jun, 2017 By: John Latchem

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Blade Runner: The Final Cut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Digital HD Sept. 5.

The release marks the 35th anniversary of the original film, which was directed by Ridley Scott and released in theaters June 25, 1982. Blade Runner stars Harrison Ford as a cop in a dystopian future tracking down androids designed to look like humans.

The film has been re-edited for home video several times over the years, with a director’s cut arriving in 1992. The “Final Cut” was released on DVD and Blu-ray in 2007 and featured restored and remastered original elements, added/extended scenes, added lines, new and upgraded special effects, and director and filmmaker commentary.

The Final Cut is the product of a process that began in early 2000 and continued off and on through seven years of intense research and meticulous restoration, technical challenges, amazing discoveries and new possibilities. I can now wholeheartedly say that Blade Runner: The Final Cut is my definitive director’s cut of the film," Scott said in 2007.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray of Blade Runner: The Final Cut will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. Ultra HD showcases 4K resolution with high dynamic range and a wider color spectrum, offering consumers brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors for a home entertainment viewing experience.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut will be available as an Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack at $44.95 and includes the film on 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and UltraViolet Digital HD. The Blu-ray will include more than seven hours of bonus materials created for the 2007 release. Fans can also purchase a UHD Digital HD of the film from select online retailers at $29.99.

The sequel, Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival), arrives in theaters Oct. 6 and stars Ford and Ryan Gosling.
