Oscilloscope Labs’ Vine Movie Release ‘A Disaster’

20 Feb, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Oscilloscope Labs’ faux bow of a feature film on Twitter’s Vine social media video platform ended the day after it began.

The indie distributor Feb. 20 said the mock release of comedy It’s a Disaster on Vine in hundreds of six-second segments apparently proved a non-starter among viewers.

The comedy — about four couples who meet for Sunday brunch only to discover they are stuck in a house together as the world may be about to end — stars David Cross (“Arrested Development”), America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”), Rachel Boston (“In Plain Sight”), Julia Stiles (“The Bourne” franchise) and Kevin Brennan, among others.

“We thought that six-second loops of video, edited in-phone, and posted in real time was and will be the future of film distribution,” joked Oscilloscope’s Bruce Farnsworth in a statement. “We were very, very wrong.”

Oscilloscope said plans for a March 5 digital and transactional VOD release, followed by an April 12 theatrical bow, will commence as scheduled.
