Comcast Ups VOD Content for Xfinity TV App

23 May, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Comcast Corp. May 23 upped to 6,000 hours the amount of VOD content now available to authenticated monthly subscribers accessing the Xfinity TV app on an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad tablet computer.

The Philadelphia-based No. 1 cable operator said it upped to 25 the number of content providers to its proprietary Xfinity TV, which is designed to retain and attract subs by offering select programming on demand via portable media devices.

This latest release of the app is the fourth update since its launch seven months ago. Enhancements incorporated into this version help personalize the user’s experience, including enabling users to filter content choices by genre and network.

Unlike some original programming that is restricted to third-party portable devices and/or limited to viewing within a subscriber’s household, the upgraded VOD content is accessible on the road, according to Matt Strauss, SVP and GM of Comcast Interactive Media.

“Whether our customers are relaxing around the house or traveling around the country, we’re bringing them a huge selection of great content at their fingertips, all for free,” Strauss said. “Our development team will continue to add even more choices and personalized options to the Xfinity TV app, giving our customers access to the entertainment they want, where and when they want it.”
