HBO has given all 60 episodes of critically acclaimed fan favorite crime drama “The Wire” a high-definition makeover. The HD episodes will debut Dec. 26 on HBO Signature and HBO Go. The Wire: The Complete Series will be available to own on Digital HD Jan. 5, 2015, and is slated for Blu-ray next summer.
The entire series has been re-mastered in 16x9 full-frame from more than 8,000 reels of original 35mm camera negatives, allowing for a tighter fit on widescreen TVs and computer/tablet screens. The original negatives were scanned, edited, dust-busted and color-corrected to maintain the look and feel of the original 4x3 version.
To mark the HD launch, HBO Signature will air the entire series consecutively, one season per day, starting with season one at noon Friday, Dec. 26. The marathon concludes with the fifth season Dec. 30.
“The Wire” originally aired from 2002 to 2008 and stars Dominic West (“The Affair”), John Doman (“Gotham”), Idris Elba (“Luther”) and Michael K. Williams (“Boardwalk Empire”).
