Independent distributor Entertainment One has acquired U.S. and Canadian home entertainment and digital rights to both the classic animated “Babar” and the newer, CG-animated version of the series, “Babar and the Adventures of Badou.”
Through an agreement with rights-holder Nelvana, eOne gets rights to 78 episodes and three stand-alone features from the classic series about an elephant that returns to the animal kingdom after living among people to lead his fellow elephants. eOne will release its first three “Classic Babar” DVDs in the fall, while “Babar and the Adventures of Badou,” currently airing on Disney Junior, will come to DVD in 2012.
“As eOne continues to bolster our family programming in the U.S., we are thrilled to partner with Nelvana on these two heart-warming ‘Babar’ series,” said Michael E. Rosenberg, president of Entertainment One U.S. “A beloved property like ‘Babar’ is truly something special, and its universal appeal among parents and children across generations is unique.”
