Lionsgate has extended a multiyear theatrical distribution agreement with Roadshow Films, Village Roadshow Limited’s theatrical distribution arm in Australia.
The new output slate includes the upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and Part 2, due to launch this November and November 2015; action comedy Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor; and "Power Rangers" films from Lionsgate’s partnership with Saban Brands to produce a series of live action films based on the "Power Rangers" brand.
Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment films are distributed in Australia by eOne.
“Our portfolio of tentpole franchises, potential franchises and star-driven event films will create tremendous opportunities for both companies in Australia in the years to come,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman and Lionsgate International COO Andrew Kramer, said in a statement.
On the heels of a SVOD service launch in China, Lionsgate is attempting to distribute its movies via output deals in territories covering 80% of the world’s movie-going population outside China and India.
Lionsgate self-distributes in the United Kingdom; via the IDC joint venture serving Latin America and a partnership with Celestial Tiger serving China and Southeast Asia.
