Shout! Factory Signs Distribution, Production Partnership With Legacy Classics

Shout! Factory has entered into a production partnership and film distribution deal with Legacy Classics to create a slate of new family movies based on several top classic and contemporary children’s book series.

The two companies will jointly develop, produce and market new animated and live-action films. Legacy Classics will leverage extensive relationships with publishers and authors, and bring hands-on production experience and marketing support, with Shout! Factory handling sales and distribution for each movie across all platforms in North America, including theatrical, digital, broadcast, in-flight and home entertainment.

“This is exciting news for family entertainment. Legacy Classics [has] had extraordinary success in turning great stories into captivating family films,” said Melissa Boag, SVP of kids and family entertainment at Shout! Factory. “This new partnership makes strategic sense for both companies.”

The initial plan calls for a minimum output of four films over the first two years, the early projects based on titles from the “Boxcar Children” series, which is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

Created by Gertrude Chandler Warner, “The Boxcar Children” comprises more than 150 books that have sold more than 70 million total copies worldwide.
