New Movie App Offers Viewers a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Experience

28 Oct, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

Remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books you read as a kid? Now you can do it with a movie.

The United Kingdom’s Stickmen Pictures and Los Angeles’ Leomark Studios have partnered on a new app that lets users choose from branching storylines during movies designed for the experience.

The free MovieMaze app is now available for Apple and Android devices, and comes with the movie The Mechanic.

Viewers watch a video sequence and select from a series of choices to advance the storyline.

The companies will charge for future movies, with two more (The Plumber and The Private Eye) slated for a 2014 release.

Twentieth Century Fox is also developing a cross-platform movie based off the “Choose Your Own Adventure” book franchise.

“We believe in the ingenuity of this project,” producer Erik Lundmark said. “Because our team is small and focused, we’ve been able bring this to audiences fast and for free.”
