19 Jan, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Lionsgate and New Regency Jan. 19 at the National Association of Television Program Executives confab in Miami announced a deal to distribute the latter’s movies on television and digital platforms globally outside the United States and Canada. The deal includes co-production of original episodic programming for international distribution, and allows for the development of joint projects from Lionsgate’s library.

Lionsgate’s TV and digital units will shepherd New Regency’s Oscar-nominated films The Revenant, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy; The Big Short, starring Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling; 2015 Oscar-winning Best Picture Birdman; and David Fincher’s Gone Girl. New Regency’s library of acclaimed titles includes Fight Club, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Under Siege, JFK, Natural Born Killers and The Client, among others.

Lionsgate’s TV and digital units are headed by Kevin Beggs and Jim Packer, respectively.

“New Regency’s library of award-winning blockbusters is a tremendous addition to our international television pipeline, and our alliance also creates exciting opportunities to produce premium scripted content drawn from a tremendous pool of world-class intellectual property,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement.
