In advance of Walt Disney Studios’ December theatrical launch of Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens,” the studio is in discussions with Netflix regarding streaming all previous Star Wars movies in Latin America only, according to .
Disney owns the rights to the movies, with the exception of the original "Star Wars," whose rights are held by 20th Century Fox.
Disney made a similar deal with China media giant Tencent Holdings — a move underscoring the studio’s goal of broadening global appeal for the "Star Wars" franchise, including consumer products and theme parks, ahead of The Force Awakens.
Through 2012, the "Star Wars" brand was reportedly valued at more than $30 billion based solely on theatrical, video game and packaged media revenue.
Disney next year begins a landmark distribution deal with Netflix for its original movies, including Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm after their theatrical and retail (digital and disc) windows.
