Vudu Offers Rental Discounts

Broadband movie set-top box company Vudu is making its movies cheaper in two new ways.
First, starting immediately, the company is offering an extended rental option for movies viewed by subscribers. Within seven days of viewing a film, Vudu subscribers can renew their rental for 99 cents. High-definition movies can be renewed for $1.99.
Second, Vudu has launched a “99 for 99” channel, where 99 movies selected by Vudu are now available for 99 cents each. New titles will rotate in periodically, the company said.
“In this age of $4-a-gallon gas and ‘staycations,' we felt that Vudu customers deserved a break and should be able to watch a great film for just 99 cents,” said Vudu marketing VP Patrick Cosson. “These initiatives are groundbreaking. Our 99 cent rental renewal is a first in our industry and will make it easier for our viewers to finish watching a great movie when it fits their schedule, not ours.”
