Verizon Expands Fios Mobile App Functionality

14 Dec, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Verizon Dec. 14 announced that subscribers to Fios Quantum TV and Fios broadband can now stream nearly all of their DVR-recorded TV shows from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Subscribers for the first time can also watch live TV through the Fios Mobile App on their mobile devices while at home. With the app, subs can stream every subscribed channel and all recorded content while at home, access on-demand titles; manage DVR recordings remotely; use their mobile device as a Fios TV remote, and set parental controls.

In addition to DVR streaming, Fios Quantum TV enables users to record up to 12 shows at the same time with up to 200 hours of HD recording capacity. They can also pause, play and rewind a live show or recording from any room in the house and resume it in another.

The moves come as Verizon seeks to expand its mobile telecom business through video. The company recently bowed Go90, a mobile-centric video platform app that enables iOS and Android users to stream ad-supported content.

The company reported 6.9 million Fios broadband and 5.8 million Fios video subs at the end of the third quarter, representing year-over-year increases of 7.2% and 5%, respectively.

"The latest innovations of the app are how today's consumers want to watch TV and view content," Susan Retta, VP of consumer marketing at Verizon, said in a statement.
