Technicolor Partners With Canal+ for Portable Streaming Device

Technicolor June 10 said it is collaborating with Canal+ Group for the rollout of a new Internet-based portable set-top box dubbed “Cube S,” which enables users to stream high-definition content directly onto a television anywhere in France.
The Cube S is a hybrid terrestrial TV and wireless device that gives users access to more than 150 channels, including French DTT, Canal+, CanalSat, VOD and TV Everywhere services.
The companies claim that for the first time, French viewers can stream movies, TV shows, music and radio — the latter two via partners Deezer and Radioline — from one device.
“Technicolor’s engineering and design expertise has allowed us to create a truly innovative and stand-out product,” Frederic Vincent, EVP, technology and information systems, Canal+ Group, said in a statement.
Technicolor and Canal+ plan to expand Cube S beyond France, a tall order considering Apple TV has sold more than 20 million units worldwide, reportedly more than Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Google’s Chromecast combined.
