Showtime to Issue Refunds Over Mayweather-McGregor PPV Problems28 Aug, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Showtime, the premium channel owned by CBS, announced it would issue refunds to select live-stream consumers of the Aug. 26 Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor boxing match.
The fight, which Mayweather won by TKO in the 10th round, experienced a minor pay-per-view delay, in addition to streaming issues via SVOD platform Showtime OTT.
“We have received very limited number of complaints overall,” Chris DeBlasio, SVP of communications for Showtime Sports, said in a statement. “We are reviewing all of them carefully and will respond to them accordingly.”
Meanwhile, online security firm Irdeto reported 2.9 million people illegally streamed the fight, which CBS expected to be the most widely distributed PPV event of all time.
