Roku Nov. 11 announced it will offer for a limited time a special-edition streaming media player for $25 ($49.99 SRP) throughout the Black Friday weekend (Nov. 26-29).
Saratoga, Calif.-based Roku helped create the streaming video market in 2008 with a branded Netflix player.
The SE player is similar to Roku’s other devices operating on OS 7, the company’s newest built-for-TV operating system. It features 1080p video streaming, simple user interface, access to nearly 3,000 streaming channels, including 300,000 movies and TV episodes; search functionality for movies, TV shows, actors and directors across more than 20 top streaming channels; and notifications for box office movies and other entertainment when available for streaming.
The device is compatible with HDMI and analog TVs; Roku Mobile App for iOS or Android offers mobile access to key features such as Roku Search, Roku Feed, Remote Control, Play on Roku. Can be used on the go for quick wireless connectivity in locations that require log-in credentials to access a Wi-Fi network.
“The Roku SE player sets a new precedent in streaming player value this Black Friday. From 4K UHD streaming with the new Roku 4, to the simple and portable Roku Streaming Stick, to the affordable Roku SE; there’s a Roku player for everyone,” chief marketing officer Matthew Anderson said in a statement.
Roku devices are available at Roku.com, Target, Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon.
