RCA TV Lineup Includes Roku

4 Sep, 2014 By: Chris Tribbey

Value-brand consumer electronics company RCA TV is the latest to offer HDTVs with Roku streaming services embedded in the hardware.

The company is now offering a dozen new models — with screen sizes from 28 to 65 inches — with a pre-installed Roku Steaming Stick, offering 1,000-plus channels, 31,000-plus movies, apps and access to personal media.

The announcement marks just the latest TV manufacturer to include Roku’s streaming technology in its hardware. Roku in mid-August announced that its streaming media platform would be offered in smart TVs marketed by Chinese manufacturers Hisense and TCL. Roku first announced the expansion from set-top devices and dongles directly to TVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

“Roku’s streaming platform is accessible directly from the TV remote, making it possible to jump straight to the Roku home screen to start watching in any room with a Wi-Fi connection,” said Pat Deighan, VP of sales for On Corp., the manufacturer of RCA TVs. “There’s no additional equipment needed and it's pre-installed for maximum convenience and ease of use.”

The RCA TVs are available at Best Buy, Walmart.com, Sears.com, BJ’s Wholesale Club, SamsClub.com and some regional electronics retailers. The 28-inch, 720p model has a retail price of $200, while the 65-inch 1080p model retails for $1,000. Among the RCA models are four that have a DVD drive built in.
