Popcornflix App on Amazon Fire TV

28 Apr, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Popcornflix, the ad-supported streaming service from Screen Media Ventures, April 28 announced its app is now available on Amazon Fire TV digital media device. New York-based Popcornflix, which offers more than 2,000 free movies and TV series, is now available on 10 different over-the-top (OTT) video devices in the United States, as well as on mobile and the Web.

Among the TV shows available on Amazon Fire TV: “Cheaters,” “The Man Show” with Jimmy Kimmel and the thriller series “ReGenesis,” staring Ellen Page. Feature films include Monster starring Charlize Theron, In Hell with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Henry’s Crime with Keanu Reeves, family film The Big Comfy Couch, as well as international cinema.

“We want our audience to be able to watch Popcornflix from all major OTT devices,” David Fannon, EVP at Popcornflix, said in a statement.

Indeed, while the Popcornflix app can be found in the “entertainment” category within Amazon App Store on Amazon Fire TV, it’s noteworthy Amazon allowed the presence of an AVOD service. That’s because Amazon’s proprietary Amazon Instant Video and Amazon Prime Instant Video services cater to transactional VOD and subscription streaming, respectively.

But the e-commerce behemoth wants visitors and eyeballs in its ecosystem regardless of their final destination.

“Amazon Fire TV is the best place to watch TV shows and movies and Popcornflix gives customers even more free content to love,” Steve Rabuchin, VP of Amazon Appstore, said in a statement.
