Paramount Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution July 8 announced a three-year distribution agreement with iQIYI, a subsidiary of Baidu and one of the largest Internet and mobile video service providers in China.
Under the pact, Paramount will give the rights to 800 films to iQIYI for subscribers of its SVOD service. In addition, a wide selection of films and television shows from Paramount’s library will be available for transactional VOD and electronic sellthrough.
The SVOD agreement includes tiltes such as The Godfather, Forrest Gump and Ghost, as well as Mission: Impossible, Transformers, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and Meet the Parents, among others.
iQIYI has acquired movies across the world and built a library with around 6,000 movies from China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, India and Europe.
Earlier this month, iQIYI announced that its mobile app had become No.1 in the free app popularity rankings and No.2 among all the apps in the China Apple App store.
