Hulu and Netflix are among the top 10 video brands in America, based on viewership data from Nielsen.
Hulu took the No. 8 spot with an average of 13.1 million viewers streaming content each month, while Netflix took the No. 10 spot with nearly 12 million viewers per month. Google’s YouTube was the runaway No. 1 with 128.4 million unique viewers per month in 2013. Vevo, Yahoo, AOL Media Network and MSN/Windows Live rounded out the top five.
The top five Web brands were Google, Facebook, Yahoo, MSN/Windows Live and YouTube, Nielsen said. With more web users shifting their viewing habits to tablets and smartphones, Web activity for all top 10 online brands was down, though Nielsen reported online video viewing was up nearly across the board.
Smartphone penetration has grown from 56% to start the year to 65% to end it, with 52% of smartphone owners on the Android platform and 41% on the iOS platform.
Facebook is the most-used smartphone app with 103 million unique users each month.
