HBO Content Debuts on Amazon Instant
21 May, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel, Chris TribbeyAs promised, episodes from “The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “True Blood” and other HBO series are now available on Amazon Prime Instant Video, making it the exclusive online-only subscription streaming service to offer the shows.
Every season of “The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “Deadwood,” “Rome,” “Six Feet Under,” “Eastbound & Down,” “Enlightened” and “Flight of the Conchords” is available, while select seasons of “True Blood,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “Treme” are included.
The deal also gives Prime members access to the miniseries Band of Brothers, The Pacific, John Adams, Parade’s End and Angels in America; the original movies Mary and Martha, Temple Grandin and You Don’t Know Jack; comedy specials from Louis CK, Ellen DeGeneres, Lewis Black and Bill Maher; and the documentaries When the Levees Broke, Ghosts of Abu Ghraib and the “Autopsy” and “Iceman” series.
“We’re thrilled to deliver this collection of groundbreaking, beloved content from HBO to Amazon Prime members for unlimited streaming at no additional cost,” said Brad Beale, director of digital video content acquisition for Amazon. “Given the number of customers who purchase these titles from Amazon, we know how much customers love these shows. We are excited to bring them to Prime members — we think they are going to love them, whether they are experiencing them for the first time or re-discovering them from the beginning.”
The agreement calls for more HBO content to be added to Prime Instant Video (including seasons of “Girls,” “The Newsroom” and “Veep”) in the coming years.
Amazon also announced that HBO’s TV Everywhere app HBO Go will be available on Amazon Fire TV by the end of the year.
