FuboTV Expands Beyond Soccer With CBS Deal

21 Jun, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Subscription streaming video service June 21 announced a license agreement with CBS Corp. that broadens the $14.99 monthly soccer-themed service’s content offering beyond the world’s most popular sport.

The agreement for Fubo Premier ($34.99) includes CBS-owned affiliate stations, CBS Sports Network, The CW, Pop and digital streaming news service CBSN. Pay-TV channel Showtime is included as an add-on service.

The deal, which ups Fubo’s line-up to 60 channels, marks a new way CBS is including affiliate broadcasters (via revenue-sharing) in the growing SVOD and online TV markets — including proprietary CBS All Access service.

“FuboTV is proving every day that it can compete in the big leagues,” Ray Hopkins, president of television networks distribution for CBS, said in a statement. “As these new players continue to come on the scene, it’s the must-have content that will thrive, and FuboTV clearly understands the value we bring to their service.”

Fubo Premier has live and on-demand access to CBS primetime programming “The Big Bang Theory” and “NCIS,” in addition to new shows “Bull” and “Kevin Can Wait.”

Showtime shows include “Homeland,” “Billions,” “Twin Peaks,” “Ray Donovan,” “The Affair” and “Shameless,” in addition to movies, and sports programming “Inside the NFL” and “Showtime Championship Boxing.”

The deal follows FuboTV’s earlier announcement it had closed a $55 million Series C fundraising round. The company has raised a total of $75.6 million in venture funding since launching in 2015.
