Epix App Available on Amazon Fire TV

17 May, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Multiplatform distributor Epix May 17 announced its app is now available to subscribers on Amazon Fire TV.

Epix, which is owned by MGM, distributes proprietary and licensed movies and TV shows through pay-TV operators. The app is essentially TV Everywhere software enabling subscribers to access content on portable devices outside the home.

The app enables users to browse curated collections of movies; search for titles by name, actors, genre, crew members and/or key words; compile a queue of content to watch; and watch movie trailers and live TV.

Epix original series include “Berlin Station,” Golden Globe nominated “Graves,” pending “Get Shorty,” and original documentary “America Divided.”

On-demand movie franchises include "The Hunger Games," "James Bond" and "Star Trek," as well as music and comedy events.

“From Alexa to AWS [Amazon Web Services] to Fire tablets and today Fire TV, we are now working with Amazon across numerous technology fronts and are excited to continue to innovate together on new media experiences for our customers,” Mark Greenberg, CEO of Epix, said in a statement.

Epix said it would soon offer subs the ability to “cast” content from Apple and Android devices to any connected TV device. Fire TV will be one of the first platforms enabling the technology to push downloads of the app from a mobile phone.
