Sony Touts ‘New User Experience’ at CES

10 Jan, 2012 By: Stephanie Prange

LAS VEGAS — Sony executives stressed the need not just for devices, but for a “new user experience” provided by a consumer electronics ecosystem that works seamlessly together, at their Jan. 9 press conference at the International Consumer Electronics Show.

“We have a stake in every part of the digital revolution,” said CEO Howard Stringer, who not only hailed Sony’s new devices and gadgets, but the company’s stakes in movie and music production.

Stringer hosted actor Will Smith to talk about Men in Black 3 (in 3D) and “American Idol” winner and bestselling vocalist Kelly Clarkson, who belted out a tune for the crowd.

Executive Kazuo Hirai noted the Sony Entertainment Network allows consumers to have one consumer ID to access movies (often months before they are available on other services), music and games. “Playstation Certified” devices, including tablets, are designed to work seamlessly together.

Sony’s new handheld game player, PlayStation Vita, due in the United States Feb. 22, is set to launch with Netflix, executives announced.

Sony executives also stressed the company’s continued commitment to offering a great picture, announcing a product that can boost the resolution for the big screen on low-quality video from sources such as YouTube.
