Rovi, Sony Partner on Smart TV Advertising

9 May, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey

Owners of Sony Bravia HDTVs soon may see advertisements while browsing through the connected services available on their screen, thanks to a new agreement between Sony Electronics and Rovi Corp.

Under the agreement, Rovi will sell and deliver advertising to the latest line of connected Bravia HDTVs. The news follows Rovi’s Smart TV Field Trial initiative, which tested how advertisers could reach consumers on connected consumer electronics devices.

“Smart TV advertising takes consumers beyond sitting and viewing advertising on a TV screen to actively choosing to learn more about products and services that the consumer is interested in,” said Jeff Siegel, SVP of advertising for Rovi. “With the addition of Sony Bravia TV to our advertising network, we are working with Sony to offer advertisers more creative capabilities to connect with the consumer.”
