Walmart Getting Jumpstart on Cyber Monday

23 Nov, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

While many chains have decided to buck a recent trend and close on Thanksgiving, Walmart not only will be open all day, the world’s largest retailer is starting Cyber Monday early on the evening (8 p.m. ET) of Nov. 29.

The e-commerce event, which features additional discounts and free shipping, traditionally follows the post-Thanksgiving Black Friday retail (Nov. 27-29) weekend.

Last year, nearly 90% of the orders placed on Walmart.com between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday shipped for free — mostly to Walmart stores. The company ships free to homes on orders of $50 or more.

With 4K Ultra High-Definition TVs expected to be a hot sell this holiday season, Walmart will sell a 65-inch LG unit for $799, nearly 50% off $1,300 SRP.

Walmart is selling early complete-season HBO boxed sets of “Band of Brothers,” “The Pacific,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “True Blood,” “Game of Thrones” and “True Detective” for less than $20.

Other movie and TV deals include Disney Marvel movies; Nickelodeon animated DVDs under $5; classic CBS sitcoms; Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games 3-Movie Set (DVD, Digital Copy) for $16.98; and myriad "Star Wars" releases, including Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray for $89.96 — 45% off the $139.99 SRP. The price could come down as Amazon matches it today.

The 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment release has sold 243,000 units ($21.7 million) since the boxed set’s Oct. 13 street date, according to The-Numbers.com.

Cyber Week will continue through Dec. 4 with 2,000 online specials offered each day.
